This workshop is for intermediate-to-advanced solo singers, choral singers, instrumentalists, music teachers and conductors  and will focus on four aspects of the CircleSinging experience:
 
1) Using the CircleSinging process as a method for developing traditional music skills.
 
2) How CircleSongs can developed beyond the first idea.
 
3) How to bring variation to the “style” of CircleSongs
 
4) How to morph from one CircleSong into another
 
Workshop Schedule
SCHEDULE: 
Segment 1   10:00-11:30  CircleSong Process
Exploration, Discovery and Definition:
From Concept to CircleSong.
 
Segment 2   11:45-1:00  Phrase Structures and Configurations
Setting ideas into the different layers (S,A,T,B) of the ensemble. 
 
Lunch 
*you can bring your own or bring 6 euros and get your lunch on location
 
Segment 3   2:30-3:45  Opening the Circle
Creating variety by integrating improvisation into the structure of a CircleSong.
 
Segment 4   4:00-5:00  The Living Story
Creating a continuous StoryLine through modulation: morphing from one CircleSong into another.

Dinner together: If you would like to join Roger and your fellow singers for dinner and conversation after the workshop, please select that option on the registration page.. We will reserve a few tables at a nearby restaurant based on your feedback. Singers are responsible for their own meal.

This workshop would be good experience for those who…
  • are good/experienced choral singers
  • are good/experienced soloists who also enjoy singing in a choral setting 
  • are interested in improvisation
  • teach and/or conduct, and want to integrate CircleSinging into their classroom or rehearsal room 
  • want to become a better musician
  • those who are good part singers and would enjoy a day of singing some really interesting, engaging, challenging CircleSongs

    In addition, Roger would like to have a short skype/phone conversation with those interested in coming to the workshop.
    This will help him bring together a good blend of experience and voices for the workshop so that it can be a valuable experience for everyone.
Location Details Located right on the river, this hostel has great panoramic views of Frankfurt’s skyline, wonderful meeting rooms and a cafe. Haus der Jugend is in the vibrant Sachsenhausen district, just a 15-minute walk from Frankfurt’s Old Town and the Museumsufer (museum mile). The Frankensteiner Platz tram stop is just 165 ft from the hostel.
